What I built
I did not write the recorder. An open-source tool records the live stream. I built the system around it: the flow from a stream going live to a finished clip in storage, and the limits that keep the servers inside their budget.
An open-source recorder captures the streamIt tells my system when a stream starts, ends or fails.
My system runs the flowIt converts each recording with FFmpeg, makes thumbnails and uploads it, with caps on how many jobs run at once and clean-up of old recordings.
Watch it laterRecordings sit in S3-compatible storage, to play in the app or download.
In operation
Figures are my own, from the app's time in operation.
Conversion rate2.50%of free users became paying users while the app was open.
OperatedAbout 6 monthsuntil the app closed on 24 May 2026.
Why it closed
Storage cost grew past what the app could carry.
Every recording is a large video file that stays in storage, so the bill grew with usage. It was more than I could afford and the app could not scale on that cost, so I closed it.
